Surface Finishing
Comprehensive surface finishing services to improve appearance, corrosion resistance, and wear performance. Anodizing, plating, powder coating, and mechanical finishes.
About Surface Finishing
Surface finishing transforms raw machined or cast parts into professional, durable, and functional components. The right finish protects against corrosion, improves wear resistance, enhances appearance, and ensures compliance with industry standards.
FabRapid offers 30+ surface finishing processes including anodizing (Type II and Type III), powder coating in 200+ colors, electroplating (nickel, chrome, zinc, gold), bead blasting, polishing, passivation, and chromate conversion coatings. Each finish is selected to match your part's material, environment, and functional requirements.
Our finishing processes are applied in-house or through qualified local partners under our ISO 9001 quality system. Every finished part is inspected for adhesion, thickness, appearance, and dimensional compliance.
Key Capabilities
Type II and Type III Anodizing
Decorative and hardcoat anodizing for aluminum in black, clear, red, blue, gold, and custom colors. Hardcoat up to 70 µm for maximum wear resistance.
Powder Coating in 200+ Colors
Electrostatic powder coating in any RAL color with gloss, matte, textured, and metallic finishes. Excellent chip and weather resistance.
Electroplating
Nickel, chrome, zinc, and gold plating for corrosion protection, conductivity, and decorative appearance. All processes are RoHS compliant.
Passivation & Chromate Conversion
ASTM A967 passivation for stainless steel and MIL-DTL-5541 chromate conversion for aluminum. Essential for aerospace and medical compliance.

How Surface Finishing Works
Finish Selection
Choose from 30+ finishes based on material compatibility, environment (indoor/outdoor/marine), functional requirements (wear, corrosion, conductivity), and aesthetics.
Surface Preparation
Parts are cleaned, degreased, and prepared for finishing. Masking is applied to protect threads, bearing surfaces, and tight-tolerance features.
Finishing Process
The selected finish is applied under controlled conditions with monitoring of thickness, temperature, time, and chemical concentrations to ensure consistency.
Quality Inspection
Finished parts are inspected for coating thickness, adhesion, color consistency, and dimensional compliance. Certifications provided on request.

Surface Finishing FAQ
For outdoor aluminum, Type II anodizing (hard, dyed black or clear) or powder coating provides the best protection. Anodizing is integral to the aluminum surface and cannot chip, while powder coating offers more color options and a thicker protective layer.
Yes. We can match RAL colors, Pantone references, and custom color samples. Powder coating offers the widest color range. Anodizing colors are limited to approximately 12 standard dye colors plus clear.
