TPU
Flexible thermoplastic polyurethane for 3D printing elastic parts. TPU produces rubber-like components with excellent abrasion resistance and shock absorption.
About TPU
TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) is a flexible, rubber-like 3D printing material that produces elastic parts with excellent abrasion resistance, shock absorption, and chemical resistance. It fills the gap between rigid plastics and silicone rubber.
FabRapid prints TPU in hardness ranges from 85A (soft, rubber-like) to 95A (firm, semi-flexible). TPU is ideal for gaskets, seals, vibration dampeners, protective bumpers, and wearable device components.
TPU is challenging to print on standard FDM systems due to its flexibility — the filament can buckle in the feed mechanism. Our direct-drive extruders handle TPU reliably at moderate speeds.

Common Applications
Design Guidelines for TPU
Print TPU slowly (20-30 mm/s) on direct-drive extruders for reliable results
Minimum wall thickness: 1.5 mm — thin walls in TPU are difficult to print accurately
Design for function-specific durometer — 85A for gaskets, 95A for structural flexibility
TPU supports adhere strongly — design to minimize support requirements
TPU FAQ
Shore 85A for soft, rubber-like applications (phone cases, seals). Shore 90A for moderate flexibility (bumpers, vibration mounts). Shore 95A for semi-flexible structural parts (hinges, straps). Most FDM systems work best with 95A — softer grades require specialized direct-drive extruders.
